Closing Ceremony of the “Back to School” Camp in Haiti
On September 4, 2026, the “Back to School” mega summer camp concluded at the Delmas Municipal Palace in Haiti. The event was attended by Pythagore Dumas, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Civic Action, alongside officials from several government agencies, including the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training and the Ministry of Public Health and Population. This initiative, organized from August 31 to September 4 under the patronage of the Prime Minister’s Office, aimed at providing educational and recreational activities for young Haitians.
The camp served over 2,000 participants aged 7 to 17, representing various communities in the metropolitan area, including displaced families. The program embodied the theme, “Every child in school is the Government’s priority,” and took place in the municipalities of Delmas, Port-au-Prince, Pétion-Ville, and Kenscoff.
The socio-educational initiative offered children an opportunity to engage in sports while learning vital values such as discipline, respect, and social cohesion. Minister Dumas addressed the attendees, stressing the ongoing commitment to child welfare beyond the camp. He urged parents to ensure a safe and supportive environment for their children.
Addressing the children, Pedrica Saint Jean, the Minister for the Status of Women, encouraged them to approach the school year with determination and respect towards their educators and peers. She emphasized the importance of avoiding violence in their lives and delivered a motivating message to young girls, asserting their capabilities and potential.
The closing ceremony featured dance and poetry performances by the young participants, creating a festive atmosphere. The entertainment was followed by a special presentation from “La bande à Pipo.” To conclude the camp, school kits were distributed to the children, preparing them for the upcoming school year.
