Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has welcomed over 2,200 non-local students as part of the government’s “Study in Hong Kong” initiative. Among these new students are two sisters from the Dominican Republic, who are set to celebrate their first Mid-Autumn Festival in the city.
Dominican Sisters’ Experience at HKBU
Marcelle, a third-year student majoring in Social Work, expressed her appreciation for the university’s approach to admissions, noting how it emphasizes the recognition of students’ individual strengths. Her younger sister, Diana, who is in her first year pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Sciences, was motivated by Marcelle’s experience to apply to the university.
The sisters commended Hong Kong’s efficient public transportation system and the effectiveness of government services. Both have expressed intentions to remain in the city following their graduation, underscoring their commitment to their new environment.
Additionally, they remarked on the positive atmosphere at HKBU, where the warmth and support from fellow students have significantly aided their integration into the campus community.
Why It Matters: The inclusion of over 2,200 international students at HKBU not only aids in fostering a multicultural environment but also aligns with Hong Kong’s broader educational and economic strategies aimed at attracting overseas talent and enhancing the region’s global educational appeal.
