The Baltimore Ravens secured a thrilling 34-31 victory against the Dallas Cowboys in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in a dramatic Week 3 matchup of the NFL season. The game showcased intense competition and concluded in a nail-biting finish, capturing the excitement of the fans in attendance.
The Ravens managed to gain the upper hand with a touchdown from quarterback Lamar Jackson to tight end Matt Hibner, which put them ahead by three points with just 90 seconds remaining in the game. However, the Cowboys quickly began their drive to score, leveraging big plays from quarterback Dak Prescott.
How the Ravens Beat the Cowboys in Brazil
The final moments of the game were marked by a controversial defensive pass interference penalty against Ravens’ player Nate Wiggins, a call that sparked debate as many believed Cowboys’ receiver CeeDee Lamb had initiated the contact. Despite the setback, the Ravens’ defense succeeded in holding the Cowboys to a field goal, as Brandon Aubrey converted the attempt, leaving only 10 seconds on the clock.
After the kickoff, the Ravens took possession at their own 35-yard line. With time running low, Lamar Jackson connected with wide receiver Zay Flowers, who managed to make a crucial play just before the clock hit zero. Referees ruled that Jackson had called a timeout with only one second remaining.
Following the timeout, kicker Tyler Loop entered the field to attempt a challenging 56-yard field goal, which he successfully made, clinching the victory for the Ravens. This dramatic finish echoed previous remarkable moments in NFL history, reminiscent of the Kansas City Chiefs’ renowned 13-second drive in the 2022 playoffs.
While the outcome was significant for the Ravens, the loss once again highlighted vulnerabilities in the Cowboys’ defense, which had previously faced scrutiny this season. Both teams displayed commendable athleticism and strategy, making the game memorable not only for its conclusion but also for the international stage it was played on.
Why It Matters
This victory marks a pivotal moment for the Baltimore Ravens as they look to build momentum early in the season. Meanwhile, the Cowboys will need to reassess their game strategy and defensive execution as they head into future matchups. The international setting in Brazil also showcases the NFL’s efforts to expand its global reach, bringing American football to new audiences.
