FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (Oct. 10, 2026) – The U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team achieved a decisive 5-0 victory against the Dominican Republic Women’s National Team in the first of two friendly matches held at the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center.
The U.S. team, composed entirely of players from the National Women’s Soccer League, demonstrated their dominance throughout the match, registering 20 shots compared to just 2 for the Dominican Republic. They scored two goals in the first half and added three more in the second half.
Mia Fishel of Seattle Reign FC opened the scoring in the 13th minute, followed by a second goal just before halftime in the first-minute of stoppage time. Ally Sentnor, who captained the squad and plays for Angel City FC, increased the lead to 3-0 with a goal in the 51st minute. Gia Corley of the San Diego Wave FC scored the fourth in the 56th minute, and Bay FC’s Karlie Lema capped the scoring with a goal in the 83rd minute.
Head coach Emma Hayes noted the fluidity of player movement between the U-23s and the senior national team. Seven of the players who featured in the match have previously earned caps with the full U.S. Women’s National Team, and nine have trained with the senior squad. Sentnor has contributed 23 caps and seven goals for the senior team, while Fishel has three caps and one goal.
Sentnor’s goal marked her third at the U-23 level, and it was a first for teammates Fishel, Corley, and Lema at this level. Sentnor has a history of scoring across various age groups within U.S. Women’s and Girls’ National Teams, netting goals for the U-15s through to the U-23s and the senior team.
This U-23 roster includes several “overage” players, a designation for players born earlier than the standard age cutoff date of January 1, 2003. The overage players in this match included goalkeeper Angelina Anderson (born in 2001), Corley (2002), forward Jameese Joseph (2002), and Fishel (2001).
Notably, Savy King made her return to international competition after a significant health issue that required surgery following a cardiac event in May 2025. King, who previously participated in both the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, has played in nine NWSL matches since her recovery.
The U.S. U-23 team will face the Dominican Republic again on October 13 at noon ET on Field 3 at the same training center.
