Shiviko Kruger, a new private villa safari lodge located on the edge of Kruger National Park in South Africa, has introduced a kosher program adhering to Mehadrin standards. According to Travelling for Business, the program was developed in collaboration with Kosher Certified South Africa (KCSA) and Kosher in the Bush in response to requests from kosher-observant travelers.
Program Details
Each villa at Shiviko Kruger operates with an independent kitchen to maintain strict kosher standards while accommodating non-kosher guests. The kosher program features supervision by a mashgiach, separate meat and dairy preparation areas, Chalav Yisrael products, mevushal wine, and meats certified Glatt and Chalak shechita.
Kosher in the Bush, a kosher catering service established by Aharon and Adrienne Bogatie, has been working with safari lodges since 2016. Most of its operations are certified through KCSA.
Shabbat Observance
The lodge has provisions for Shabbat observance, including timer-controlled lighting and specific walking areas for guests who refrain from travel during this time. Guests are advised to confirm meal arrangements for Shabbat with the lodge when booking.
Exclusive Villas
Shiviko Kruger comprises four exclusive-use villas—Pula, Ekasi, Shaka, and Thobela. Each villa accommodates one group at a time, with two-bedroom options for up to four guests and three-bedroom options for up to six. Amenities include a private chef, butler, guide, and dedicated game-drive vehicle, allowing families to customize their schedules for meals and activities.
Located approximately 7 km from the Paul Kruger Gate, the lodge provides flexibility in planning, and guests can enjoy facilities such as a shared clubhouse featuring a pool with water slides, a cinema, a gym, and a sauna.
Activities and Nearby Attractions
Alongside game drives in the Greater Kruger area, guests can explore the Panorama Route, visiting landmarks such as God’s Window and Blyde River Canyon, before returning to a Mehadrin-supervised meal. Bourkes Luck Potholes is also a popular destination along this scenic route.
Booking Information
The kosher program at Shiviko Kruger is described as Mehadrin standard, developed in partnership with KCSA and Kosher in the Bush, which includes an on-site mashgiach. The lodge’s website does not currently list the kosher certification or program rates, so visitors are encouraged to inquire directly about these details when booking. The kosher service accepts requests three to six months in advance, as well as short-notice inquiries.
