Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has been dismissed from the University of Alabama football team, according to reports stemming from court records released on Tuesday. The University of Alabama Police Department (UAPD) officer Christopher Fuerch stated in his report that he received an alarming message from Kirkpatrick on October 20 via Facebook Messenger. The message contained aggressive language that raised significant concerns for Officer Fuerch’s safety, especially given a previous incident in November 2025 when Kirkpatrick allegedly fled from a traffic stop.
Fuerch described his reaction to the message as immediate alarm. Upon checking Kirkpatrick’s Facebook page, he found a photo of himself with his family and a caption that indicated Kirkpatrick’s awareness of the officer’s identity, intensifying fears for the officer’s safety due to Kirkpatrick’s public profile as a football player.
In a separate set of news, Kalen DeBoer addressed the media regarding various topics, highlighting his optimism about player EJ Crowell. DeBoer praised Crowell as “fun to be around” and noted his desire to compete. Despite facing challenges due to injuries, DeBoer expressed confidence that Crowell would have a successful career ahead of him. “Sometimes, you just have a tough year,” DeBoer remarked, acknowledging Crowell’s current struggles but expecting improvement.
As Alabama prepares for a significant matchup against No. 15 LSU, DeBoer indicated that Crowell is expected to practice all week. Historically, Alabama has performed well after bye weeks under DeBoer, holding a 4-0 record in such games with an average victory margin of 12.5 points.
CFP Expansion and Scheduling Arrangements
DeBoer also discussed the anticipated expansion of the College Football Playoff (CFP) to 24 teams, which he believes will lead to a shift in scheduling practices. He speculated that teams might become more willing to schedule marquee games, potentially altering the landscape of college football. “More teams get in. You argue that there’s a little bit more room for error,” he noted, indicating that this could engender more significant matchups between teams previously hesitant to schedule tough opponents.
Moreover, the SEC and Big Ten are reportedly crafting a scheduling arrangement to commence following the expansion. Alabama is set to face Ohio State in a home-and-home series over the next two seasons as part of these changes.
DeBoer noted the financial competitiveness of Alabama’s football program, referencing former coach Nick Saban’s testimony about the growth of Alabama’s name, image, and likeness (NIL) collective. Saban revealed that the NIL fund expanded from $2.7 million in 2021 to approximately $24 million for the 2025 season.
As Alabama gears up for the clash against LSU, the team seems to be recovering from injuries, with several players potentially returning to action. This weekend’s match presents another opportunity for Alabama to solidify its standing in the competitive SEC landscape.
