An illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic, Lenin Nova-Nova, has been sentenced to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to drug possession with intent to distribute. The sentencing took place on Friday, with U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. presiding over the case.
The charges arose from an incident in November 2023, when Nova-Nova was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over by police in East Millinocket due to a headlight issue. During the traffic stop, an officer noticed an “unnatural bulge” under Nova-Nova’s clothing.
Upon questioning, Nova-Nova attempted to introduce himself using a false name. However, a background check on this alias revealed an outstanding arrest warrant. Following this, police proceeded to search Nova-Nova and discovered approximately $1,350 in cash, four mobile phones, and a significant amount of controlled substances.
The search yielded about 113 grams of 100% pure methamphetamine, 19 grams of a substance containing fentanyl, and 57.8 grams of a cocaine base. Subsequent investigations by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) identified Nova-Nova’s true identity and confirmed that he was unlawfully present in the United States.
This conviction highlights ongoing issues related to illegal immigration and drug trafficking in the region. Nova-Nova’s ten-year sentence underscores the legal consequences faced by individuals involved in such activities.
