Inside Capital Partners Invests in Zambian Honey Producer Wuchi Wami
Inside Capital Partners has announced an investment in Wuchi Wami, a producer of single-origin Miombo honey based in Zambia. This investment aims to bolster the company’s growth and enhance its operational capacities.
Wuchi Wami specializes in sourcing organic honey from rural beekeepers who are organized into co-operatives. The company processes, packages, and sells honey to retailers and food manufacturers within Zambia and throughout Southern Africa.
The funding from Inside Capital Partners is expected to facilitate Wuchi Wami’s plans to expand its processing and packing operations. It will also support the growth of its retail brand and private-label business while increasing the number of smallholder beekeepers from whom Wuchi Wami sources its honey.
Szymon Starosta, an investment manager at Inside Capital Partners, highlighted the unique advantages that Wuchi Wami has developed. He stated, “Wuchi Wami has built a moat that is hard to copy – the trust of thousands of rural beekeepers, and a supply chain that runs from the hive to the shelf. Our conviction is that formalizing rural value chains is one of the most direct ways to raise incomes in Southern Africa. We look forward to supporting the team as they add capacity and reach more customers in the region.”
Harry Malichi, founder and managing director of Wuchi Wami, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership and its implications for local farmers. He remarked, “I believe that we are enabling our business and our farmers to be agents of change. This partnership gives us the capital and the discipline to process more of what our outgrower beekeepers produce, to reach more shelves in the region, and to keep paying a fair price at the farm gate.”
This investment represents a significant step towards enhancing the agricultural sector in Zambia, particularly in the area of sustainable honey production. The collaboration between Inside Capital Partners and Wuchi Wami underscores the potential for growth and innovation within the Southern African economy.
Why It Matters
The partnership between Inside Capital Partners and Wuchi Wami not only reinforces the importance of sustainable agricultural practices but also highlights the potential for investment to uplift rural communities. By improving the processing capabilities and enhancing the supply chain of honey production, this collaboration aims to stimulate economic growth and support the livelihoods of smallholder beekeepers in Zambia, further contributing to regional food security and economic resilience.
