CAIRO – 3 October 2026: The inaugural Africa-Alamein Business Forum was held in New Alamein, Egypt, on October 2, 2026, with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly announcing plans for the forum to become a recurring event every two years. This initiative aims to create a continuous platform for governments, investors, financial institutions, development organizations, and the private sector, focusing on transforming Africa’s economic potential into actionable projects and investments.
Strengthening Economic Cooperation in Africa
During his address, Prime Minister Madbouly underscored the wealth of resources available across the African continent, including its youthful population and expansive market. He noted the significant opportunities in various sectors such as manufacturing, energy, agriculture, technology, services, and the digital economy. However, he also pointed out major challenges that need to be addressed, including financial constraints, inadequate infrastructure, high capital costs, and limited intra-African connectivity.
Madbouly emphasized the need to transition from merely acknowledging Africa’s potential to actively converting these opportunities into tangible projects. This shift requires securing necessary financing and minimizing investment risks while facilitating a movement from dialogue to implementation. He highlighted the vital role of the private sector in driving investment, innovation, production, trade, and job creation within the continent.
The prime minister remarked that Egypt’s choice of New Alamein as the host city for the forum represents a commitment to fostering integrated infrastructure and promoting investment opportunities. The forum, which was organized in collaboration with the African Union Commission, AUDA-NEPAD, and Afreximbank, aims to bolster public-private partnerships and align with the objectives of Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The establishment of the Africa-Alamein Business Forum is anticipated to significantly contribute to enhancing economic cooperation and development across the African region, creating a more interconnected and thriving economic landscape.
Why It Matters
The Africa-Alamein Business Forum serves as a critical step toward addressing Africa’s economic barriers and harnessing its vast potential. By facilitating dialogue among various stakeholders, the forum aims to transform theoretical opportunities into practical investments that can lead to sustained economic growth and development throughout the continent.
