A man from the Dominican Republic is facing multiple felony charges related to attempted bank fraud in western Kentucky. Authorities reported that the incidents took place on September 18, when the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a suspicious individual at a bank on U.S. Highway 60 in Kevil.
The suspect was attempting to open a bank account using identification from the Dominican Republic and a fictitious address, claiming residence in the Paducah area. Upon arrival, law enforcement found that the individual had already left the bank.
Investigators discovered that the suspect had allegedly visited multiple banks in the region with the same request, raising concerns about possible ongoing fraudulent activities. Further investigation led deputies to determine that the individual had moved to another bank in Carlisle County, prompting them to notify the Carlisle County Sheriff’s Office.
The Carlisle County Sheriff’s deputies were able to locate and detain the individual, later identified as Simei Acosta-Fabian. According to officials, Acosta-Fabian is a permanent resident of the United States, originally from the Dominican Republic.
During questioning, Acosta-Fabian confessed to traveling from Trenton, New Jersey, to Paducah and using false information in his attempts to open bank accounts at various locations. This admission led to his arrest.
He was charged with one count of second-degree forgery concerning the suspicious activity at the Carlisle County bank. Following his arrest, Acosta-Fabian was transferred to the McCracken County Jail, where he faced an additional charge of the same offense for the incident in their jurisdiction.
