A variety of professional development opportunities are being offered to members of the bioscience community, including webinars, awards, internships, and fellowships. The initiatives aim to enhance career advancement and networking opportunities among researchers, educators, and other professionals. The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) is inviting participation in these programs and events, which span several upcoming dates through the end of 2026 and beyond.
Key Upcoming Opportunities
Sept. 23, 2026: Webinar on Lipoproteins
ASBMB will host a webinar focusing on lipoproteins in the blood and brain. Featured presentations will include “Extracellular Digestion of Aggregated LDL and Its Role in Foam Cell Formation” by Jonathan Ma and “Impaired lipoprotein secretion by APOE4 leads to lysosomal and mitochondrial dysfunction in human microglia” by Jasmin Revanna. Registration is available online.
Sept. 30, 2026: Nominations for ASBMB Fellows
The ASBMB is accepting nominations for the distinction of ASBMB Fellow. Eligible candidates include members from diverse backgrounds in various fields of molecular life sciences. Nominations must be submitted by September 30.
Sept. 30, 2026: Nominations for Journal of Lipid Research Jr. Associate Editor Program
Early-career faculty members are encouraged to be nominated for the Journal of Lipid Research Jr. Associate Editor Program. This three-year mentoring opportunity is targeted at assistant professors within ten years of obtaining their terminal degree. Nomination submissions, including a CV, are due by the same date.
Oct. 5, 2026: Molecular Bioscience Week
The ASBMB invites participants to its inaugural Molecular Bioscience Week, which aims to showcase the significance of molecular bioscience in medicine and technology through a series of virtual workshops, outreach events, and networking opportunities.
Nov. 1, 2026: ASM Ambassador Program Applications
The American Society for Microbiology is looking for scientists and trainees to participate as ambassadors in their communities. This one-year fellowship promotes collaboration and professional development, with applications closing on November 1.
Dec. 8, 2026: Travel Awards for the 2027 ASBMB Annual Meeting
Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows can apply for travel awards to attend the 2027 ASBMB Annual Meeting. The new Future of Discovery Program aims to increase both the number and the value of these awards, with applications due when submitting an abstract by December 8.
Ongoing Opportunities
Additional opportunities include the Pennsylvania Legislative Science & Technology Policy Fellowship, Massachusetts Life Sciences Center’s Internship Challenge, and the HHMI Presidential Fellows Program, which are also accepting applications.
Moreover, ASBMB is currently inviting proposals for virtual scientific events, including workshops and conferences, to be managed by the society.
For those with terminated federal grants, Redwood Ink is offering applications for a grant supporting enrollment in a scientific writing course. NIH-affiliated researchers can also register for Cloud Lab accounts to gain access to training and resources.
Why It Matters
These initiatives play a crucial role in fostering professional growth within the biosciences, helping to bridge the gap between education and practical application in various fields. Participation in such programs supports collaboration, innovation, and continued advancement in scientific research and education.
