Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud urged African business leaders and international investors to seize opportunities in Somalia as the nation works toward rebuilding its economy. He made these remarks at the Alamein-Africa Business Forum in New Alamein, Egypt, on Saturday, where he addressed an audience of heads of state, ministers, and financial institutions.
“Somalia is not merely a country recovering from conflict; it is a nation rebuilding and reforming its economy,” President Hassan Sheikh stated. He emphasized the country’s openness to trade and investment, inviting potential partners to join in the reconstruction efforts.
In his speech, the president highlighted the need for African countries to better leverage their natural resources, skilled workforce, and investment opportunities. He pointed out that productive investment is crucial for job creation and sustainable development in Somalia.
Hassan Sheikh also discussed broader economic themes, stating that Africa’s economic future relies on increased cooperation, expanded trade, improved infrastructure, and enhanced market integration among nations on the continent.
The Alamein Africa Forum commenced on Friday and is set to last three days, drawing approximately 1,500 participants from various sectors across Africa. The event includes high-level discussions about economic growth and continental integration.
Forum attendees are also addressing challenges such as access to financing, infrastructure needs, high capital costs, and barriers that hinder intra-African trade and investment.
