The Chicago Bears have announced that Tyson Bagent will start at quarterback for their Week 5 matchup against the Green Bay Packers. This decision comes following Bagent’s performance in the Bears’ Week 4 victory over the New York Jets, where he completed 25 of 34 passes for 268 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception.
Ben Johnson, the Bears’ head coach, confirmed Bagent’s role during an appearance on ESPN 1000, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Johnson’s endorsement marks a shift from the previous game, where Case Keenum stepped in for the injured Caleb Williams and performed strongly against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Although Bagent’s performance may not have stood out statistically, the Bears secured a commanding win over the Jets, aided by a solid rushing attack led by Kyle Monangai, who carried the ball 30 times for an average of 4.9 yards per rush. Bagent’s contributions were more about managing the game than dominating it.
Williams, who has been sidelined due to injury, will miss his third consecutive game. He is expected to target a return for Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons. In the meantime, Bagent will lead the Bears against their NFC North rivals, the Packers, a game where increased offensive output from him may be crucial.
