Ledger has issued a request for sellers and distributors to halt sales of its hardware wallets in six Southeast Asian countries and Hong Kong while it investigates reports of tampered devices. The company announced this request via a post on X on Tuesday.
The affected regions include Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. Ledger emphasized that the investigation currently focuses on incidents in Southeast Asia, stating, “To be clear, as the investigation continues, the only confirmed incidents remain contained to Southeast Asia. We have not verified a drain linked to a device bought elsewhere.”
Ledger’s investigation seeks to identify who tampered with the devices and where the issues originated within the distribution chain. This latest sales suspension expands upon a prior request made to the reseller CryptoBilis to stop sales and shipments, which became public on October 9 after reports surfaced of stolen cryptocurrency linked to devices purchased through that retailer.
The company has noted that users in other regions, including Europe, have reported finding signs of tampering in devices bought from various retailers. Despite these reports, Ledger assured users, “We have no indication that Ledger’s infrastructure, systems or services or direct sales channel have been compromised.”
As the investigation continues, Ledger’s response will likely evolve based on further findings regarding the tampering incidents and their impact on customer purchases.
