Digital Science has released a report titled “Research Security in U.S. Federally Funded Science: Evidence, Exposure, and a Risk-Calibrated Path Forward,” which examines the adequacy of current federal research security policies regarding visiting scholars and short-term researchers.
The report reveals that nearly half of researchers affiliated with both a restricted entity and a U.S. research institution had this affiliation for 24 months or less. Specifically, 48.2% of these researchers fall into this category.
According to Digital Science, these findings indicate a significant challenge associated with short-term affiliations. They noted that during their appointment at a U.S. institution, a researcher’s official affiliation is typically recorded as that institution. This practice may result in prior connections not being captured by existing disclosure processes.
For further details on the report’s findings, a press release has been made available by Digital Science.
