Toyota Motor Europe (TME) has reported a record sales figure of 936,042 vehicles for the first nine months of 2026, which includes both the Toyota and Lexus brands. This represents a modest increase of 0.6% compared to the same period last year. The majority of these sales, 87%, or 813,623 units, came from electrified vehicles, showcasing the brand’s growing strength in this market segment.
Battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales saw significant growth, more than doubling to 104,832 units—a 136% increase year-on-year. This surge has been attributed to strong customer demand for models such as the Toyota C-HR+, bZ4X, and Urban Cruiser. In contrast, Lexus reported a decline in sales, with 62,597 units sold from January to September 2026, marking a decrease of four percentage points from the previous year.
The Toyota brand itself achieved 873,445 sales during the same period, reflecting an almost one percent increase. Specifically, electrified sales for Toyota reached 753,665 units, which is a 15% rise. This includes over 113,000 units sold from their Professional series, which consists of the Hilux and Proace models.
“Customers are responding strongly to our electrified line-up, with notable growth across both hybrid and battery electric vehicles,” said Till Conrad, Executive Vice President of Sales at TME. He noted that the Aygo X Hybrid has expanded the reach of their hybrid technology, while the C-HR+ and bZ4X models are enhancing their battery electric presence in Europe.
The new RAV4 Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) also performed well with 41,697 sales. However, traditional models including the Aygo X, Yaris, C-HR, and Corolla continued to dominate sales figures across Europe. The Corolla nameplate, in particular, is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026. Since its introduction, nearly one million Corolla vehicles have been sold annually, contributing to a total of 57 million units delivered globally.
The Corolla is manufactured in 14 production centers located in 11 countries. The current 12th generation features various models, including hatchback, sedan, and Touring Sports versions, as well as the Corolla Cross compact SUV. Toyota attributes the enduring success of the Corolla to the principles established when the model was first created in 1966.
“Corolla’s sustained success is founded on the principles that Toyota applied in creating the original model back in 1966,” the company stated. “It remains true to those qualities, having constantly adapted over the years to maintain its place at the heart of the market.”
Production of the Toyota Corolla began in Europe in 1971, with full-scale manufacturing starting in 1994. Approximately 9.5 million units have been sold in the region. Currently, the Corolla hatchback and Touring Sports are produced at Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK, while the sedan is built in Turkey.
In celebration of its 60th anniversary, TME has launched limited edition models of the Corolla Hatchback and Touring Sports. These special versions feature an exclusive Boreal Blue metallic paint and new 17-inch alloy wheels. The Corolla Sedan has its own Lunar Sky Blue paint along with similar features, including 60th Anniversary badging.
