Passenger Traffic Between Mexico and the Dominican Republic Increases 423% Since Arajet’s Launch
Arajet, the Dominican Republic’s flagship airline, has reported a remarkable increase in passenger traffic between Mexico and the Dominican Republic, achieving a 423% rise in just four years since it began operations in the Mexican market. According to projections from the Dominican Republic’s Civil Aviation Board (JAC), total passenger traffic between the countries is expected to surpass 398,000 by the end of 2026.
This surge follows the airline’s initial route launch in September 2022, connecting Santo Domingo with Mexico City through Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). Since then, Arajet has expanded its services to include routes between Cancún and Punta Cana, as well as further connections to and from Mexico City.
Manuel Luna, Chief Communication Officer & External Affairs at Arajet, emphasized the strategic importance of the Mexican market. “We have seen how greater connectivity can generate new demand, making it easier for more Mexican travelers to discover the Dominican Republic,” he said. He also noted that over the four years of operations, the airline has carried more than 580,000 passengers between the two countries.
Looking ahead, Arajet plans to transport over 240,000 passengers—including connecting travelers—within the Mexican market by 2026. This projection comes alongside an anticipated 17% increase in capacity and the addition of three new weekly flight frequencies in 2027. The airline currently operates 18 weekly routes from its home markets, primarily focusing on the popular NLU and CUN destinations.
Arajet has positioned itself to facilitate seamless travel for Mexican travelers, providing access to a wider network that connects to 30 destinations across the Americas. “Our goal is to continue expanding our presence and make the Dominican Republic accessible to more travelers,” Luna added, highlighting the airline’s vision of creating a dynamic travel environment between the two nations.
As Arajet continues to grow its operations, the airline remains committed to sustainable expansion and enhancing travel options for passengers traveling to and from Mexico.
