SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — El Salvador has sent 100 special forces soldiers to Haiti to assist in the search for four of its soldiers who have gone missing after an attack by gangs, officials announced on Thursday. The deployment came one day after President Nayib Bukele revealed a military operation aimed at rescuing the missing personnel, who are identified as aviation technicians.
The President emphasized the urgency of the situation, threatening a stronger military response if the soldiers are not returned alive and unharmed. The area in Haiti where the attack occurred has recently seen increased gang violence, complicating rescue efforts.
Bukele’s government is coordinating its actions closely with local authorities in Haiti, as the search for the missing soldiers intensifies. El Salvador has been dealing with its own issues related to gang violence and has previously deployed troops abroad to assist in regional security efforts.
Officials from both countries are monitoring the situation closely, with updates expected as operations to locate the missing soldiers continue. The fate of the four technicians remains uncertain as the military operation unfolds.
