Moody’s affirmed France’s sovereign credit rating at Aa3 on Friday, a decision that analysts say is advantageous for several French banks, including Société Générale, Groupe BPCE, and Crédit Mutuel. Jesse Norcross from ING highlighted that a potential downgrade to A1 could have triggered further downgrades for these financial institutions.
The affirmation of France’s rating positively impacted the country’s government bonds, which outperformed those of other Eurozone nations. According to Tradeweb data, the yield on 10-year French government bonds decreased by 8.1 basis points, reaching 4.949%. In contrast, the yield on 10-year German Bunds rose by 2.6 basis points to 3.371%.
