GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers are set to meet on Thursday night, both teams eager to rebound from disappointing losses. The Packers come into the game with a record of 4-3 after losing 20-17 to the Detroit Lions, a match marred by seven penalties in the second half that led to scrutiny of the officiating. Meanwhile, the Panthers, currently at 3-3, are looking to shake off a humiliating 43-13 defeat at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“This is the next game, this is the next championship opportunity,” said Panthers head coach Dave Canales. He acknowledged the emotional impact of their recent loss, noting, “There’s something that burns inside of you as a competitor,” which he believes resonates with both teams.
The Packers will face challenges with their offensive line, having lost starting center Sean Rhyan and backup Jacob Monk in the previous game. Right guard Travis Glover is also sidelined due to a knee injury. This injury situation adds to a season-long issue for the Packers, who have employed different offensive line combinations in each of their last four games.
Packers running back Josh Jacobs, who made his season debut against Detroit, expressed confidence in the remaining players. “We still trust the guys,” he said, referring to their preparations and adjustments despite the lineup changes. The Packers also will miss linebacker Zaire Franklin, who is out with a shin injury.
The Panthers have ruled out several players, including cornerback Akayleb Evans (triceps/knee), guard Damien Lewis (knee), outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips (hamstring), and offensive lineman Torricelli Simpkins (ankle).
This match represents a rematch of last season’s matchup, where the Panthers edged the Packers 16-13 at Lambeau Field. “It’s a new year, new season, new guys on both sides of the ball,” said Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, stressing the need to focus on the present rather than past performances.
The Packers struggled with their offensive efficiency last year against the Panthers and faced similar challenges in the recent game against Detroit, particularly inside the opponent’s 35-yard line. Conversely, the Panthers hope to revitalize their defense after a lackluster performance against Tampa Bay, where they allowed an alarming 258 rushing yards.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur commented on the challenge ahead, stating, “We’ve got to bounce back.”
The game will kick off at 8:15 p.m. EDT and will be available for streaming on Prime Video. The current betting line favors the Packers by 3.5 points.
Last week’s results included the Panthers’ loss to Tampa Bay and the Packers’ defeat at Detroit, both teams looking to improve on that performance as they clash on Thursday night.
