Asia Boone has been named among the top 20 candidates for the prestigious 2027 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, which recognizes the best shooting guard in college basketball. The Kentucky Wildcats senior’s performance last season positioned her as a leading contender as she begins her final collegiate campaign.
Boone, a 5-foot-8 guard from San Diego, excelled as a three-point shooter, finishing the previous season with a shooting percentage of 36.5% from beyond the arc. She averaged 7.3 attempts per game, recording 96 three-pointers, which ranked 11th nationally. This impressive feat was nearly enough to set a new single-season record for the Wildcats—her teammate, Amelia Hassett, made 99 threes.
Before her time at Kentucky, Boone played her first two seasons at Liberty. Over her college career, she has maintained a 36.7% shooting percentage from three-point range on 5.8 attempts per game. After transitioning from a bench role to the starting lineup midway through the 2025-26 season, Boone saw increased success, shooting 38% from deep during her final 11 games as a starter.
In 36 games last season, Boone contributed an average of 10.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists each game over 29.3 minutes of playing time. With Hassett’s graduation leaving a gap in the team’s scoring, Boone is expected to play a crucial role in the Wildcats’ offensive strategy for the 2026-27 season, with head coach Kenny Brooks expressing confidence in her abilities. “We just really want her to be the best version of what she gave us,” Brooks said during Tuesday’s Media Day.
Boone is one of five players from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) featured on the watch list, joining Tajianna Roberts from Louisville. The Cardinals will face Kentucky at Rupp Arena on December 9, adding to an already competitive season. Players may be added or removed from the watch list as the season progresses.
