Bayern Munich Considering Bernd Leno as Goalkeeper Option
Bayern Munich is reportedly interested in acquiring Bernd Leno, the current Fulham goalkeeper and former Germany international. The German club aims to secure the 34-year-old as a backup option for their first-choice keeper, Jonas Urbig, in the upcoming season.
Potential Move to Allianz Arena
Leno’s contract with Fulham is set to continue until the summer of 2027, with the club retaining an option to extend his deal for an additional year. Reports suggest that he would be open to a transfer to Bayern, as it would allow him to return to Germany and be closer to his family.
The goalkeeper began his career in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, initially joining on loan from Stuttgart before securing a permanent transfer and becoming their first-choice keeper. In 2018, he transitioned to the Premier League, signing with Arsenal where he spent four seasons until transferring to Fulham in 2022 for an initial fee of £3 million, which could increase to £8 million with performance-related add-ons.
Leno has a notable international career, representing Germany at various youth levels before debuting for the senior national team in 2016. He has since made nine appearances for Germany.
Why It Matters
This potential move is significant for both Leno, who may find a favorable environment back in Germany, and Bayern Munich, as they seek experienced options to bolster their squad for the next season.
