As part of the 20th edition of Pasteurdon, Birth France collaborated with director Valentin Guiod to create a poignant film that explores the profound connection between scientific research and the lives it touches. The film, titled “Le Lien,” illustrates the parallel journeys of a child facing illness and the dedicated researchers at Institut Pasteur, who are committed to advancing medical science.
Guiod’s cinematic storytelling emphasizes the silent dialogue between personal experiences and scientific endeavors. The narrative features a child navigating life with illness, contrasted with researchers engrossed in their work at the Institut, underscoring the shared mission in their respective struggles for life.
“This film was a wonderful opportunity to turn my gaze towards those who transform our lives, for real,” Guiod remarked. “And in that, we share the same need, the same drive, and that is already a powerful connection.”
Institut Pasteur aims to illustrate the relentless nature of scientific research, which is cultivated over time through the dedication of researchers and the support from the community. The film emotionally conveys the relationship between advancements in science and the lives they impact.
Produced by BIRTH and conceived by The Good Company, “Le Lien” showcases Guiod’s focus on rhythm and emotionally charged storytelling. It was filmed in Paris at Institut Pasteur, with Benoit Soler serving as the director of photography. The campaign also features contributions from photographer Peter Funch.
The emotional impact of the film is further enhanced by the soundtrack, “Cette guerre” by Ben Mazué, which echoes the central theme that behind every person lies an unseen struggle.
