The Cleveland Browns received encouraging news regarding linebacker Quincy Williams ahead of their Week 7 game against the Tennessee Titans. After a concerning absence during Thursday’s practice due to a neck injury, Williams returned to the field on Friday, suggesting he is likely to play on Sunday.
Williams had been a key player for the Browns’ defense, contributing significantly over the past few weeks. His absence from Thursday’s practice raised alarms, as defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg did not provide details about the injury, stating, “I’m going to leave all that to Monk (Todd Monken), obviously, so I’ll just leave it at that.”
As the team wrapped up practice on Friday, Williams’ return brought relief to the coaching staff and fans. Overall, the injury situation for the Browns appears to be improving. Linebacker Carson Schwesinger has been managing an ankle injury, while defensive tackle Mason Graham is back in practice after missing the last two games due to a sprained MCL. Schwesinger remains a key player with a consistent performance record this season.
Quincy Williams Among NFL’s Top Linebackers
Since joining the Browns as a free agent this offseason, Williams’ performance has elevated him to one of the top linebackers in the league. He leads the NFL with three forced fumbles, all recorded against his former team, the New York Jets. Additionally, he has accumulated 40 tackles, one sack, and three quarterback hits, with two of those occurring in last week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Pro Football Focus ranks Williams as the No. 5 linebacker in the NFL, while Schwesinger is rated No. 18 out of 75 players at the position. The only other team in the AFC with two linebackers rated in the Top 20 is the Kansas City Chiefs.
In discussing Schwesinger’s performance, Rutenberg expressed admiration for his work ethic and leadership skills, emphasizing that his efforts in preparation contribute significantly to the team’s success. “The way he works, the way he prepares, and the way he shows up for his teammates, it’s unbelievable,” he said.
The Browns are scheduled to face the Titans on Sunday, where both Williams and Schwesinger are expected to play critical roles in the defense.
