The Philadelphia Eagles are hopeful about the potential return of DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley for their upcoming Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Both players have been sidelined due to injuries, and their participation could offer a much-needed boost for the struggling offense.
Smith has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury. He was seen stretching with teammates during warmups last week but did not participate in practice. In contrast, Barkley was not present at practices last week, suggesting he may be further from returning.
Bringing either player back would benefit the Eagles as they currently navigate a challenging stretch, having lost three consecutive games. Barkley’s return would be particularly significant, given that the Eagles are also without running back Tank Bigsby, who is on injured reserve, and Will Shipley, who sustained a foot injury during a recent game. If Barkley is unable to play, the Eagles’ backfield will consist of Dameon Pierce, Carson Steele, and Jaydon Blue.
While the return of Smith and Barkley could invigorate the Eagles’ offense, it’s important for the team to ensure they are fully healthy before returning to action, as rushing them back could lead to further injuries.
Prior to their injuries, the Eagles already faced challenges on offense, and their return alone may not resolve all issues. Nevertheless, having them back would be a step in the right direction.
The Eagles are set to begin their preparations for the Panthers on Wednesday, with injury reports expected to be released on that day as well as on Thursday and Friday.
