Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles delivered an uplifting message to Latter-day Saints in the northern Dominican Republic during a special conference held on September 13. The event took place at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santiago de los Caballeros and was attended by church members from local stakes as well as government officials and community leaders.
In his address, Elder Rasband emphasized the importance of anchoring lives in Jesus Christ, urging attendees to “stand in holy places and be not moved.” He declared that Jesus Christ is the “King of kings” who transcends political boundaries, offering reassurance as “the Prince of Peace.” The conference was part of a weekend ministry that included interactions with Haitian missionaries and members on the border city of Dajabón earlier that week.
### Insights and Encouragement
Alongside Elder Rasband, Elder Edward Dube of the Presidency of the Seventy joined the visit, along with other members of the Church’s Caribbean Area presidency. During his speech, Elder Rasband spoke about the spiritual significance of homes, chapels, and temples, encouraging church members to strengthen their bonds with the Savior through gospel study, family history work, and temple attendance. The Santo Domingo Dominican Republic Temple, dedicated in 2000, serves as a key place for congregants, and a new temple for Santiago was announced for construction.
Elder Rasband expressed his love for the church’s members and invited them to deepen their relationship with Jesus. He encouraged them to study His teachings and the Book of Mormon, asserting that such devotion would enhance their capacity to serve.
Within the same weekend, Elder Dube held a separate gathering in Puerto Plata, where he prompted members to reflect on their decisions and the path toward building a closer relationship with God. His messages underscored perseverance despite personal challenges that members might face.
Elder Ahmad S. Corbitt, another member of the Caribbean Area presidency, presided over a community event called “Dinner for 10,” which aimed to strengthen local ties in anticipation of the new temple. He expressed gratitude toward various sector leaders, highlighting the importance of family and shared values for a stronger community.
### Why It Matters
The visit by Elder Rasband and other church leaders highlights the commitment of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to nurture spiritual growth and community relationships in the Dominican Republic. Through these teachings and events, church leaders aim to empower individuals and families, reinforcing the church’s presence and mission in the region.
