A free science workshop focused on skin health will be held at Pearce Elementary School on Saturday, October 17th, from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM. This event is organized in collaboration with the University of Incarnate Word and Healing the Children and aims to provide an engaging educational experience for elementary students within the district.
Workshop Details and Activities
The interactive workshop will introduce students to the importance of skin health through various STEAM activities that emphasize safety from the sun, bugs, and plants. Planned activities include using UV beads and creating models of skin layers with Play-Doh, among other hands-on projects designed to make learning enjoyable.
This event is open to all elementary school students in the district, specifically catering to those aged 8 to 10. However, children aged 6 and older are also welcome to participate. Parents are encouraged to secure a spot for their children, as limited availability may impact participation.
To guarantee attendance, registrations must be completed by October 9th through an online form provided for this purpose. Interested families can access the form through the provided link.
The workshop presents an excellent opportunity for students to explore science outside the traditional classroom setting and gain insights into health and wellness through practical demonstrations.
Why It Matters
This workshop not only fosters an appreciation for science among young students but also promotes critical health messages related to skin safety. By collaborating with educational institutions, local organizations can enhance community involvement and support public health objectives in a hands-on, engaging manner.
