Haiti has announced new passport fees for citizens seeking to apply at its diplomatic missions and consular posts abroad, in a move designed to standardize processing and eliminate unauthorized charges. The changes were detailed in a circular from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, effective from October 5, following the announcement on October 1.
As part of the new fee structure, adults will need to pay US$150 for passport applications, while minors will be charged US$125. The ministry emphasized that any additional fees imposed on passport applications are illegal and will not be tolerated.
Furthermore, the ministry has prohibited Haitian diplomatic missions and consular posts from offering emergency and extreme-emergency passport services, stating that all applications must be treated uniformly. This directive aligns with what the ministry refers to as its commitment to serving taxpayers effectively.
In a related instruction, the heads of Haiti’s diplomatic missions and consular posts have been requested to transfer any remaining funds from previously collected passport fees to the Haitian Treasury. These funds are to be submitted by check to the TRÉSOR PUBLIC-DGI, as outlined in the circular.
Officials were also directed to take the necessary steps to ensure these measures are followed rigorously and to submit a complete report regarding the implementation of the new rules to the Foreign Ministry.
