La Flor Dominicana has announced the release of the Andalusian Bull 10th Anniversary Maduro, which begins shipping to retail outlets today. This new cigar retains the original Andalusian Bull’s distinct shape but features a darker maduro wrapper. It commemorates the 10th anniversary of one of the brand’s most popular offerings.
The filler and binder for this maduro version were sourced from La Canela, the Dominican Republic farm owned by La Flor Dominicana. Some of the Dominican tobacco in the blend comes from a 2016 crop that has been aging for 10 years. This includes the binder leaf and one filler component, which is derived from Pelo de Oro seed. Unlike the original, which used Ecuadoran tobacco, this new release utilizes a dark Connecticut broadleaf wrapper from the Connecticut River Valley. The company describes the cigar as “a sweeter, richer, and darker Andalusian Bull.”
The new Andalusian Bull measures 6 1/2 inches in length with a 64 ring gauge at its widest point. It is a figurado cigar with a tapered head and a bulbous base, reminiscent of a Salomon shape. Production is limited to 5,000 boxes, each containing 10 cigars, and the suggested retail price for each box is $350, equating to $35 per cigar.
“The Andalusian Bull 10th Anniversary Maduro had to be an Andalusian Bull, but it looks darker and tastes sweeter,” said Litto Gomez, the cigarmaker. “I just want our supporters to love it as much as they love the original Andalusian Bull. That’s all I dream about.”
The original Andalusian Bull was introduced in June 2016. Created by Gomez, who was born in Spain and raised in Uruguay, the cigar’s design was inspired by an antique mold discovered during a trip to Europe. It achieved significant acclaim, earning the title of Cigar Aficionado’s No. 1 Cigar of the Year for 2016 with a score of 96 points, and remains in high demand today.
While maintaining many similarities to its predecessor, the packaging for the new cigar has been notably revamped. The boxes are adorned in green and gold and feature a diamond-patterned lid that reveals the dark cigars inside, which are complemented by green, black, and gold bands.
In an early review by Cigar Aficionado, the 10th Anniversary Andalusian Bull was noted for its strength, richness, sweetness, and complex flavor profile.
