MILWAUKEE — Three teenage brothers from Milwaukee are harnessing the power of youth sports to promote community involvement and support for local nonprofit organizations. Luke, Jack, and Brady McMahon initiated the Triple Impact Initiative about a year ago, aiming to give back to their community through various athletic and service-oriented projects.
Community Engagement Through Sports
The Triple Impact Initiative connects youth athletic activities with service projects, focusing on fundraising and volunteer efforts for All Saints Catholic Church in Milwaukee. According to Luke McMahon, one of the co-founders, participating in community service provides a profound sense of appreciation among those being helped. “One of the best things about service is realizing how much the people appreciate your help,” he stated.
Each brother plays a distinct role within the initiative. Luke McMahon oversees the operations, while Jack McMahon manages partnerships and fundraising activities. Brady McMahon focuses on community engagement and volunteer recruitment.
The McMahons collaborated with All Saints Catholic Church, which has been serving hundreds of hot meals to those in need every Tuesday and Thursday for approximately 20 years. Through various events and partnerships, their initiative has successfully raised over $3,200 and garnered more than $500 in food donations for the church.
Jack McMahon emphasized the importance of effectively communicating the initiative’s mission to potential donors. “You really gotta like sell what the cause is,” he explained, noting that sharing the impact of their work is crucial in motivating others to contribute financially.
Terry Ashley, the volunteer leader of the meal program at All Saints Catholic Church, acknowledged the significance of the brothers’ contributions. The funds raised help cover costs not addressed through food donations alone. “Not everything gets donated… We want our meals to be complete,” Ashley explained, highlighting the importance of including essential proteins.
The McMahon brothers actively participate in meal service at the church, demonstrating their commitment to hands-on volunteer work. Ashley expressed hope that their actions serve as an inspiration for other young individuals to engage in volunteer efforts. “I’m hopeful that inspires others,” she said, emphasizing the positive outcomes of such initiatives.
The Triple Impact Initiative recently hosted a pickleball tournament as a community engagement effort, showcasing the fun and social aspects of their mission. “Obviously, the main goal is to help the church, but it’s also a great way to get the community together,” Brady McMahon remarked, highlighting the joy of bringing people together for a good cause.
Looking ahead, the Triple Impact Initiative aims to expand its outreach and provide additional support to various nonprofit organizations in the area.
Why It Matters
The efforts of the McMahon brothers highlight the potential of youth initiatives to effect positive change in their communities. By integrating sports with service activities, they not only support local charities but also foster a culture of volunteerism among their peers, which could lead to widespread benefits for Milwaukee’s community organizations.
