Emergent Cold LatAm has announced the construction of a new cold storage facility in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, which will increase its logistics and distribution capacity in the region. The facility, located in Parque Circunvalación Norte, will add 16,000 pallet positions in two phases and is expected to open in the summer of 2027.
This expansion aims to enhance the company’s chilled and frozen storage capabilities and is projected to create over 70 jobs. Emergent Cold LatAm stated that the facility will support the supply chain for food and other temperature-sensitive products.
The investment is part of Emergent Cold LatAm’s broader expansion plans in the Dominican Republic, where the company already operates facilities at the Port of Caucedo and Parque Industrial Duarte in Santo Domingo. With the addition of the Santiago facility, Emergent Cold LatAm will have a total storage capacity of 43,000 pallet positions in the country.
The company’s logistics network connects various locations, including major market hubs in Santo Domingo and the northern region. Future expansion plans also include a new project in Punta Cana, which is known for its tourism and commercial markets.
Pedro Bretón, the Business Unit Head for Emergent Cold LatAm in the Dominican Republic, emphasized the strategic importance of the Santiago project. “This project in Santiago represents a strategic step for Emergent Cold LatAm and a clear demonstration of our confidence in the Dominican Republic,” he said. He noted that the investment will enhance customer storage and distribution efficiency while contributing to a modern and integrated logistics network.
Juan Pablo Benítez, the Managing Director for Emergent Cold LatAm in Mexico and the Caribbean, highlighted the benefits of the new facility. He stated, “The new facility will allow us to expand our capacity, get even closer to our customers, and provide comprehensive temperature-controlled storage and distribution solutions.”
Emergent Cold LatAm operates 110 food storage facilities across 11 Latin American countries and employs more than 6,000 people. Currently, the company is engaged in nine other construction or expansion projects across the region.
