Mochovce-4 Connects to Grid: Slovakian utility Slovenské Elektrárne announced that its Mochovce-4 reactor has successfully connected to the power grid and commenced electricity generation. The reactor, designed with a Russian VVER-440 model, was activated at 20% power on October 15, with a final capacity of 471 megawatts electric (MWe) expected. Construction of Mochovce-3 and -4 began in 1986, but progress halted in 1992. Unit 3 began commercial operations earlier this year, while Unit 4 achieved criticality in August. Slovenské Elektrárne noted that further tests and adjustments at various power levels are required before the reactor can reach full capacity. Currently, Slovakia’s five other operational reactors supply over 60% of the country’s electricity.
Polish SMR Joint Venture PAK BWRX: In Poland, SGE, a Warsaw-based reactor developer, has partnered with energy group ZE PAK to form a new venture named PAK BWRX S.A. This initiative will focus on developing a nuclear power facility featuring six BWRX-300 reactors from GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy at a site of a retiring coal-fired plant in Pątnów. The proposed project aims to generate around 1,800 megawatts of electricity. PAK BWRX is part of SGE’s efforts to advance nuclear development projects across Poland with U.S. and Canadian collaboration.
Lubiatowo-Kopalino AP1000 Project: Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) has commissioned Westinghouse to begin procuring long-lead components for the construction of Poland’s first nuclear power plant at Lubiatowo-Kopalino in Pomerania. This facility will consist of three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors. PEJ confirmed that the long-lead order includes six vital components for the plant’s nuclear island, in accordance with an existing engineering agreement established with the Westinghouse-Bechtel Consortium.
Rosatom Floating Power Plants in Indonesia: Russia’s Rosatom has entered an agreement with Indonesia’s PT Pembangkit Listrik Nuklir to deploy floating nuclear power plants on Halmahera Island in North Maluku. The plan includes two FPU-100 units with a combined capacity of 200 megawatts, projected to begin operations within five years. Negotiations between Rosatom and the Indonesian government are underway, focusing on a phased deployment of small floating reactors, followed by larger land-based facilities. Rosatom intends to own and operate the floating plants, with the Indonesian government purchasing the generated electricity.
Philippines Conference on Nuclear Energy: At the World Nuclear Supply Chain Conference in Manila on October 20, Philippine Energy Secretary Sharon Garin outlined plans for establishing the foundational policies and regulations for the nation’s first nuclear power project. These plans target an initial capacity of 1.2 gigawatts by 2032 and a long-term goal of 4.8 gigawatts by 2050. Garin emphasized the government’s aim to integrate nuclear energy into the national grid to enhance energy security and reduce dependence on imports. Patrick Aquino, director of the Philippine Department of Energy’s Energy Utilization Management Bureau, discussed progress on assessing sites and developing a regulatory framework for the project.
Linglong One SMR Tests in China: The China News Service has reported that hot functional tests for the Linglong One ACP100 small modular reactor (SMR) are currently underway at the Changjiang nuclear power plant in Hainan. These tests aim to prepare the reactor for fuel loading within a year. The project’s first concrete pour occurred in July 2021, with cold functional tests completed in October 2025.
