Rimac Technology and ECOBLOX have announced a partnership aimed at developing a Modular Data Center (MDC) that combines Rimac’s battery and power electronics technology with ECOBLOX’s AI infrastructure solutions. The announcement was made on October 7, 2026, in Zagreb, Croatia, and Dubai, UAE. This collaboration seeks to address the growing demands for energy and space in data centers, particularly in light of the increasing need for high-performance computing for artificial intelligence applications.
As data centers evolve to accommodate the surge in AI computing power, they face pressing challenges regarding energy availability, cooling capacity, and deployment space. The MDC solution developed through this partnership is designed to offer a compact and integrated architecture that can efficiently handle high-density workloads.
A Modular Architecture for AI Infrastructure
Rimac Technology will leverage more than ten years of expertise in high-voltage engineering to create next-generation power solutions suitable for the shift towards 400 VDC and 800 VDC architectures in AI computing. The partnership aims to produce high-density modular solutions specifically built to meet the demanding power requirements of AI technologies.
The modular data center will integrate Rimac’s UNI battery modules, allowing for enhanced serviceability and extended backup power for essential computing hardware. This integration features a Battery Management System (BMS) that provides real-time monitoring and control, relaying core telemetry directly to ECOBLOX’s Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platform for centralized oversight and automated alerts. The design unifies power conversion, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), cooling systems, and IT infrastructure within a single, modular footprint.
Proven Technologies for AI Infrastructure
Rimac’s UNI battery modules are developed to meet stringent automotive standards, prioritizing high-performance density, compact design, safety, and advanced thermal management. Originally made for automotive and industrial applications, the modules have now been adapted for use in AI infrastructure.
ECOBLOX, recognized as an NVIDIA Preferred Partner, delivers comprehensive AI infrastructure solutions, encompassing MDCs and full GPU system integration. They combine advanced air- and liquid-cooled enclosures with proprietary software for high-performance computing and GPU as a service, enabling rapid deployment of scalable computing clusters within a short timeframe of six to eight months.
Doug Makishima, CEO of ECOBLOX, stated, “Partnering with Rimac Technology allows us to redefine high-density power delivery for the next generation of AI compute,” emphasizing the benefits of integrating automotive-grade energy storage into their MDC architecture to alleviate grid constraints.
Nurdin Pitarević, CEO of Rimac Technology, noted, “The same capabilities are increasingly relevant to high-power AI infrastructure,” highlighting the critical nature of power density, thermal management, and reliability in this domain. He expressed enthusiasm for applying their automotive-grade technologies to AI data centers.
The first modular data center from this partnership is set for installation at the Rimac Campus near Zagreb in November 2026. This facility will function as a live demonstration of the joint solution, providing a platform for collaboration with customers and partners.
