TAIPEI — Taiwan’s U-15 baseball team was eliminated from medal contention at the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup after suffering an 11-4 defeat to the Dominican Republic in their final Super Round matchup on Sunday in Merida, Mexico.
This loss concluded Taiwan’s Super Round journey with a 2-3 record, ending their hopes of competing in the medal games. The Dominican Republic will advance to face the United States in the championship, while Japan and Mexico will vie for the bronze medal.
Prior to this game, Taiwan had entered the Super Round with a record of 1-1, following strong performances that included a dominant 10-0 victory over Mexico and a narrow 5-4 loss to Japan.
During the final game against the Dominican Republic, Taiwan struggled defensively, committing three errors while the Dominican team recorded 11 hits. Starting pitcher Chen Po-chun allowed four runs on four hits in the first inning. After striking out a batter with two outs, he was replaced by Lin Ting-wei, who yielded two additional runs in the second inning.
Chou Chen-chuan then took the mound for Taiwan but faced challenges after two errors allowed further scoring. As the team fell behind, Tang Po-yang was brought in, conceding a two-run single that widened the gap further. Lin Pin-an came on to close the fifth inning without allowing any runs but the Dominican Republic added another score in the sixth due to a Taiwan error.
Taiwan finished the preliminary round of the tournament with a record of 4-1, securing second place in Group B. The top three teams from each group advanced to the Super Round, giving them a shot at the championship title.
