The Islamic Republic of Iran has intensified its rhetoric against European nations, issuing a series of threats through official channels and state-aligned media. A recent video circulated by Iranian media features a spokesperson from the Khatam-al Anbiya Headquarters, warning Europeans that anyone aiding American efforts to harm Iranian civilians would be considered an enemy. The video, which displays potential military targets in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, calls on European nations to rid themselves of “thieves” and reclaim their sovereignty.
Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has also criticized the German foreign minister for perceived indifference to the human costs of a new war involving Iran. He suggested that Europe is mistakenly ignoring the lessons of past conflicts, stating, “Johnny Head-in-Air is not prone to learning lessons.” This highlights the growing friction between Tehran and multiple European capitals amid ongoing tensions with the United States.
Iranian officials have issued explicit warnings to Europe against cooperating with the U.S. in military actions directed at Iran. They allege that Europe’s involvement mirrors its role in previous conflicts, citing potential missile strikes on nations that allow their resources to be used against Iran. Over the past 18 months, while European leaders have occasionally expressed dissent towards U.S. policies, they have largely supported Washington’s agenda. This alignment is increasingly criticized, particularly in light of rising fuel prices which have cost Europe over €100 billion since the onset of hostilities.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi highlighted these financial losses, remarking that the economic price is nothing compared to the military response Iran will mount against perceived aggressors. His comments aimed particularly at Germany reflect a broader threat to any coalition formed against Iran. This came amid escalating Iranian threats, especially after an October 31 meeting between military leaders and Iran’s Supreme Leader, which signaled an intent for immediate and broad retaliatory actions without regional constraints.
Recent statements from Iranian military officials emphasize that U.S. military installations, regardless of location, could become targets if conflict escalates. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps affirmed their readiness to respond decisively to any threats against Iran’s interests, reiterating that their operations would extend beyond the Middle East.
Tehran’s messaging suggests that European nations could be swept into military confrontations due to their ties with the U.S. An October 29 report revealed diagrams indicating potential targets like U.S. bases in Europe should hostilities resume. Iranian officials have also designated the British Secret Intelligence Service and the Royal Navy as hostile entities, framing these actions as responses to Western military collaborations against Iran.
Despite Iran’s threatening posture, European leaders remain focused on diplomatic solutions. Statements from British and German officials express readiness to negotiate with Iran to ensure stability and avoid potential escalation. Iran’s strategy appears aimed at increasing the cost for European nations that support American operations, potentially forcing them to reconsider their military alignments before further conflicts arise.
