Magnitude 4.1 Earthquake Strikes Grand’Anse, Haiti
A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Grand’Anse on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 8:59 PM. The quake was centered approximately 10 kilometers northwest of Corail, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at latitude 18.64° North and longitude 73.95° West. It occurred 17 kilometers west of Jérémie, 74 kilometers southwest of Île de la Gonâve, and 93 kilometers northwest of Miragoâne, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Officials from the Civil Protection Directorate reported no fatalities, injuries, or significant damage resulting from the earthquake. However, the tremor was felt widely across the region, causing concern and moments of panic among residents.
The Civil Protection continues to monitor the situation and is prepared to respond if necessary as authorities assess any potential impact from the earthquake.
