The Sun Prairie West girls swim team recently participated in a busy week of competition, concluding with a significant invitational event. On Thursday, September 10, the Wolves hosted a dual meet against Madison West, followed by a 12-team invitational in Brookfield on September 12.
Team Performance at Recent Meets
During the dual meet, Sun Prairie West faced a challenging opponent, with Madison West securing a dominant victory at 134-36. The Regents finished in the top two positions in nine out of the eleven varsity events. Sun Prairie West managed to secure second place in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays despite the overall defeat.
The invitational saw a strong performance from Madison West as well, where they emerged as champions with a total score of 546. Sun Prairie West finished sixth in the event, accumulating 239 points from their efforts.
Senior swimmer Mackenzie Hastings was a standout performer for Sun Prairie West, achieving second place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.73 and earning fourth place in the 100 freestyle in 56.84 seconds. The 100 backstroke event proved to be particularly fruitful for the team, as junior Michaela Loess finished seventh (1:04.95) and sophomore Breeley Hastings placed eighth (1:06.04).
In addition, senior Mahati Sathish showcased her talents in the 200 individual medley, securing fifth place with a time of 2:23.50. Junior Hattie Ries also contributed impressively, finishing seventh in the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.48 seconds and eighth in the 200 freestyle at 2:05.85.
The Wolves’ top relay result at the invitational occurred in the 200 medley relay, where Hastings, Sathish, Loess, and sophomore Stella Hague collaborated for a seventh-place finish, clocking a time of 1:58.60.
Looking ahead, Sun Prairie West has another busy weekend scheduled, including a Big Eight conference dual meet at Madison Memorial on September 18, followed by an invitational at Waukesha South High School on September 19.
