Florida Complex League Mets Conclude Season with Struggles
The Florida Complex League (FCL) Mets finished the 2026 season with a record of 24 wins and 33 losses, placing them third in the FCL East. The team struggled offensively, ranking near the bottom in several categories, while their pitching performance was also subpar, landing in the 33rd percentile of league pitching metrics.
Meanwhile, the Dominican Summer League (DSL) Mets had mixed results. The DSL Mets Team Orange ended the season with a record of 29 wins and 27 losses, achieving a slight advantage over .500. In contrast, the DSL Mets Team Blue finished poorly, with a record of 20 wins and 36 losses, representing a 16-game deficit below .500. The performance of DSL Mets Orange stood out, particularly for their pitching, though they also faced challenges at the plate.
Highlighted Players
Vladi Gomez emerged as a key player for the FCL Mets. Signed from the Dominican Republic in January 2023, the 19-year-old showed significant improvement throughout the season, posting a .328 batting average with a .432 on-base percentage over 48 games, along with 33 stolen bases. Gomez’s strong performance was a notable contrast to his earlier seasons, where he struggled at the plate.
Jean Brito, a 20-year-old right-hander, was recognized as the FCL Mets’ best pitcher, compiling a 4.78 ERA over 32 innings in 13 games. Although the overall pitching for the FCL Mets was below average, Brito’s metrics highlighted his balanced performance, with 31 strikeouts and solid innings pitch despite challenges.
Cesar Acosta, another promising player, delivered a notable performance as a backstop for the DSL Mets Orange. In 44 games, he recorded a .271 average with significant extra-base hits, including 11 doubles and 5 triples. Acosta’s athleticism and potential have attracted attention from scouts, despite some concerns regarding his strikeout rate.
Abner Meza, a rising pitching prospect, was also a standout for the DSL Mets Orange, concluding the season with a remarkable 1.81 ERA over 49.2 innings. His performance marked him as one of the top pitchers in the league, showcasing the potential to contribute at higher levels in the future.
As the offseason approaches, players from the complex leagues will look to build on their experiences, while the organization evaluates its talent pool for future developments.
