FERGUS ― The annual 5 km Fun Run/Walk for Haiti is set to take place at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on St. George Street West in Fergus on Saturday, October 17, at 9 a.m. This event serves as a fundraiser for St. Andrew’s HEARTS (Haitians Educated and Ready to Serve), which has been supporting four schools in the Cap-Haitien region of Haiti for nearly 25 years.
Participants will start at the church and follow a scenic route along the Elora Cataract trail and through the neighborhoods surrounding Kirvan Park. Attendees can look forward to the presence of Vilmer Paul, the principal of the Institution Centre d’Espoir du Pays (ICEP) in Cap-Haitien, along with his wife, Sara, who is the school administrator.
In addition to the run/walk, awards will be given to the top male and female finishers, as well as to the top three fundraisers. All participants who complete the event will be treated to a complimentary brunch.
Registration for the event is $20, with the fee waived for those who raise over $40. Interested individuals can find more information and register online at the St. Andrew’s Church website.
