HKSTP and PCIM Asia Shanghai Form Partnership to Enhance Power Electronics Innovation
The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has partnered with PCIM Asia Shanghai, a leading exhibition and conference for power electronics, to accelerate the transition of power-electronics innovations from research to international market adoption. The collaboration was formalized through a strategic agreement signed during an event at Hong Kong Science Park on October 15, 2026.
This partnership coincided with the “Power Electronics Innovation Across Asia” seminar, which attracted an audience of international technology companies, local university academics, innovators, and investors. Attendees discussed advancements in power electronics, power semiconductors, and emerging trends that will influence Asia’s industrial landscape.
HKSTP and PCIM Asia Shanghai aim to foster sustained collaboration within the innovation and technology ecosystem. By leveraging their combined corporate networks and industry platforms, the organizations plan to enhance knowledge exchange and promote cooperation in areas such as power electronics, semiconductors, electrification, and renewable energy.
Terry Wong, CEO of HKSTP, emphasized the significance of power electronics in the modern era, where technologies such as artificial intelligence and smart devices rely heavily on effective power management. “Power electronics is becoming one of the most important enabling technologies of the next industrial era,” he stated.
Highlighting Hong Kong’s strengths in design-led electronics alongside the manufacturing capabilities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Wong expressed the goal of positioning Hong Kong as a central hub for research, design, and system integration in power semiconductors.
Richard Li, Executive Director of Messe Frankfurt (HK) and chairperson of the Board of Management of Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Co., noted that the collaboration would enhance Hong Kong’s role as a strategic hub for partnerships. It will also connect international research institutions, integrated circuit design firms, technology developers, and investors with the manufacturing resources of the Greater Bay Area and mainland China.
Li pointed out that HKSTP has attracted over 300 micro-electronic companies and boasts a robust infrastructure for research and development, prototyping, and pilot production. He added, “This strategic collaboration will elevate the visibility of Hong Kong’s innovative technologies and promote sustainable partnerships within the power electronics industry.”
The collaboration intends to strengthen connections between Hong Kong’s research capacities and the broader Asian power electronics market, supporting long-term partnerships across the region and globally.
