Haiti Enhances Maritime Safety with New Equipment Delivery
On October 14, 2026, Patrick Norzéus, the Director General of the Haitian Maritime and Navigation Service (SEMANAH), delivered maritime signaling equipment to the National Port Authority (APN) in Port-au-Prince. This initiative is part of a broader project aimed at marking navigation channels in international and certain coastal ports across Haiti.
Norzéus highlighted his commitment to improving the marking of Haitian ports during his leadership at SEMANAH. He expressed his intention to work closely with APN officials to enhance the effectiveness of navigation safety efforts.
Both SEMANAH and the APN aim to bolster the safety and organization of maritime navigation in the region. Norzéus described the collaboration between the two agencies as essential for their missions, noting that they complement each other’s efforts.
Eng. Jean Evens Charles, Director General of the APN, voiced his appreciation for SEMANAH’s involvement and support in this critical task. He stated that the APN’s operations depend significantly on its collaboration with SEMANAH, which he referred to as akin to a “maritime traffic police force” responsible for regulating ship traffic and enhancing navigational safety.
Norzéus also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the support that enabled SEMANAH to secure the necessary equipment for surveying and marking navigation channels in ports. He acknowledged the APN’s role in advancing this significant project.
Port navigational marking involves designating safe passage routes for ships traveling to and from ports. This work plays a critical role in facilitating maritime traffic at all hours and reducing the potential for maritime accidents.
