Actor Asia Kate Dillon, known for their roles in Billions, Orange Is the New Black, and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, is looking to return to the service industry as their acting opportunities have significantly decreased. Dillon, 41, made this announcement in an Instagram post on Tuesday, sharing their past experience in food and customer service, which began at the age of 15.
In the post, Dillon described how they worked in food service while pursuing acting gigs up until the fall of 2015, when they transitioned to full-time acting. “I have worked exclusively in theater, film, and TV for the last 11 years,” Dillon wrote.
However, Dillon noted that acting work has “all but diminished,” particularly for performers who are trans, nonbinary, or gender nonconforming. They expressed a need for service work once again. Dillon shared their enthusiasm for the service industry, stating, “I love creating welcoming environments for people to relax in and connect with each other.”
The actor mentioned they are available for part-time, nighttime, and weekend shifts, expressing readiness to adapt to new systems in the service field. Dillon highlighted their comprehensive experience, having held various roles from dishwasher to floor manager in food service prior to focusing on acting.
Dillon gained prominence for their portrayal of Taylor Mason in Billions, becoming the first nonbinary actor to play a nonbinary character on a major American television series. They came out as nonbinary in 2016. In past interviews, Dillon has reflected on the significance of their role and the impact it has had on nonbinary viewers, stating that receiving messages from them about representation is incredibly meaningful.
The actor’s latest project was in the 2025 drama film Outerlands. Dillon’s appeal for service work marks a notable shift as they seek new opportunities amidst changing dynamics in the acting industry.
