BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic – The USA Baseball 18U National Team is preparing to defend its championship title at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Americas U-18 Baseball Pan-American Championship from October 22-29. Having recently claimed its 11th World Cup title, Team USA is aiming for a third consecutive gold medal and a spot in the 2027 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.
A Gold Medal Pursuit
Team USA has a rich history in international tournaments, seeking its third successive gold at this event, which would mark their 19th gold medal in international play. Since 2009, the team has won gold in every Pan-American Championship and World Cup Qualifier it has participated in.
Since the event’s inception, Team USA holds an impressive 58-1 record, with the only loss occurring in 2016 against Mexico. The team has secured four consecutive gold medals since, including three victories over Panama, and enters the tournament with a 26-game winning streak.
In their latest outing in 2024, the 18U National Team completed the World Cup Americas Qualifier with an unblemished 8-0 record in Panama, outscoring opponents 58-9 and recording four shutouts.
The roster showcases top talent, with nine alumni selected in the first round of the 2026 MLB Draft, including second overall pick Grady Emerson. Eli Willits, from the 2024 team, was the first overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.
The Competitive Landscape
The championship will feature 11 countries competing for four qualifying positions for the 2027 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in China. Team USA, currently ranked No. 3, is placed in Group A alongside No. 8 Dominican Republic, No. 21 Brazil, and No. 31 Curaçao. Group B includes No. 5 Venezuela, No. 6 Mexico, No. 12 Cuba, and No. 15 Nicaragua, while Group C consists of No. 7 Puerto Rico, No. 9 Panama, and No. 18 Canada.
Historically, Team USA has excelled, achieving a combined 22-1 record against Brazil and the Dominican Republic. This tournament marks the first encounter between the U.S. and Curaçao, and it will also be the first game against the Dominican Republic since 2018 and on Dominican soil.
After pool play, the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Round starting October 25, leading to the medal games on October 29. All matches will take place at the International Prospect League (IPL) Academy Complex in Boca Chica, which also hosts a player development program.
Team Composition and Management
The 2026 roster includes Isaac Vidal, a veteran of two previous national teams, alongside 15U National Team alumni Cooper Collins and Samir Mohammed. Nine players have been involved in USA Baseball’s development programs, while top 2027 MLB Draft prospects such as Dylan Seward and Malachi Butler also feature on the team.
The team is managed by Brian Schneider, making his debut in this role, with support from pitching coach Luke Gregerson and assistant coaches Doug Mientkiewicz and Tim Raines Jr.
