Heavy rains in Haiti and the Dominican Republic have led to significant flooding and landslides, resulting in at least four fatalities, according to local authorities.
In Haiti’s southwestern region, the Civil Protection Agency reported that the floods have impacted more than 3,200 families and caused substantial damage to homes. The agency also indicated that two individuals are currently missing in the affected area. Multiple roads in southwestern Haiti have been obstructed due to landslides.
In the Dominican Republic, the Emergency Operations Center noted that at least 30 communities have been isolated by the heavy rainfall, and over 100 homes are reported to be flooded. Both countries are located on the island of Hispaniola.
The severe weather conditions are attributed to a low-pressure system moving through the northern Caribbean, which has brought excessive rainfall to the region.
