The African Energy Chamber (AEC) and S&P Global Energy have renewed their partnership for the African Energy Week (AEW), signing a five-year memorandum of understanding that extends their collaboration through the 2031 edition of the event. This agreement aims to enhance investment in Africa’s energy landscape.
The formal signing took place during the opening ceremony of AEW 2026 in Cape Town, with Christian Nilsson, Chief Commercial Officer of S&P Global Energy, and NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of AEC, in attendance. The partnership formalizes a strategic collaboration that links a leading market intelligence firm with Africa’s largest energy conference, promoting long-term engagement on energy issues across the continent.
Under this partnership, the two organizations plan to produce a new State of Energy in Africa report, which will be showcased at the conclusion of AEW 2026. S&P Global Energy specializes in providing market intelligence, data, and analysis pertaining to energy and commodities, supporting companies in making informed decisions about supply, demand, pricing, and investment.
This renewed collaboration comes at a critical time for African energy markets, which are looking for investment in various sectors, including upstream development, gas infrastructure, electricity generation, refining, and industrial processing. Access to reliable market information is essential for investors to evaluate project economics and understand the investment landscape in Africa.
“Africa competes for capital against every other region in the world, and the countries that win will be the ones that can show investors the numbers,” Ayuk stated. He emphasized that S&P Global Energy will enhance the data-driven insights available at AEW, thereby benefiting both governments and companies participating in the conference.
AEW serves as Africa’s premier energy marketplace, facilitating connections between project owners and potential investors through various forums, discussions, and an exhibition. The event program encompasses oil and gas, power, finance, and emerging technologies, aligning policy discussions with the needs of developers and funders in the energy sector.
The five-year agreement reinforces the alliance between AEC and S&P Global Energy, ensuring that future editions of AEW will continue to bridge African energy opportunities with global financing and expertise.
