American Airlines announced plans to resume service to Haiti in November and will introduce a second route to Venezuela next month. This expansion marks the airline’s efforts to increase its presence in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The new daily route from Miami to Maracaibo, Venezuela, will utilize an Embraer E175 regional jet. This service adds to the existing twice-daily flights from Miami to Caracas, which resumed in April after a seven-year hiatus.
Starting November 1, American Airlines will operate daily flights from Miami to Cap-Haitien, a coastal city in Haiti. This marks the airline’s return to Haiti after suspending service in November 2024 following safety concerns. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had imposed a ban on U.S. airlines flying to Haiti after incidents involving gunfire at Port-au-Prince airport.
While the ban on flights to Port-au-Prince remains in effect, Cap-Haitien was not included in the longer-term restrictions, allowing for American’s return to the route. The airline will be using Boeing 737 aircraft for these flights.
With these new routes, American Airlines will expand its total number of destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America to 100.
