American Airlines is set to resume flights to Haiti beginning Sunday morning with a special flight from Miami International Airport to Cap-Haïtien. The flight, which is scheduled to depart at 10 a.m., will feature an all-Haitian crew.
This marks the first time in two years that a major U.S. airline will operate flights to Haiti. Despite the resumption of service to Cap-Haïtien, flights to and from the capital city of Port-au-Prince remain banned.
To commemorate the occasion, Miami-Dade County leaders and airport officials will hold a special ceremony at Miami International Airport to celebrate the return of air service to Haiti.
The developments come amid ongoing challenges in Haiti, where the security situation has limited access and led to flight restrictions. American Airlines has indicated that it is committed to serving the Haitian community.
As preparations are underway for the first flight, the airline has not announced any additional flights to Haiti at this time. However, the ceremony and the return of American Airlines flights may indicate a willingness to restore broader service as conditions improve.
