Passenger traffic between Mexico and the Dominican Republic is expected to surpass 398,000 travelers by the end of 2026, a significant increase of 423% from the 76,049 recorded in 2022, according to the Dominican Civil Aviation Board (JAC). This growth aligns with Arajet’s efforts to strengthen its presence in the Mexican market.
Since introducing nonstop flights between Santo Domingo and Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) in September 2022, Arajet has transported more than 580,000 passengers, excluding connecting traffic. The airline expanded its network to include routes from Cancún to Punta Cana and from Mexico City to Punta Cana, enhancing connectivity between the Caribbean and North America.
Manuel Luna, Arajet’s Chief Communication Officer, stated, “Mexico has been a strategic market for Arajet since we began operations. Over these four years we have seen how a greater supply of connectivity can generate new demand and make it easier for more Mexicans to discover the Dominican Republic.” He noted that the market’s evolution supports the airline’s plans for ongoing growth.
By the end of 2026, Arajet anticipates carrying over 240,000 passengers on its routes to Mexico, including connecting travelers. This will be supported by 18 weekly flights between Felipe Ángeles International Airport and Cancún, reflecting a 17% increase in capacity compared to 2025.
Looking forward to 2027, Arajet plans to introduce three additional weekly frequencies to Mexico and boost its overall seat capacity by 17%. Currently, passengers flying from Mexico City and Cancún have access to 30 international destinations through Arajet’s Dominican hub.
Arajet operates scheduled flights from its bases at Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana International Airport, utilizing a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
