SUN CITY, AZ — Maricopa County Sheriff Jerry Sheridan announced on Friday that investigators are actively working to determine the precise location of a reported assault involving congressional candidate Bernadette Greene-Placentia. The incident took place on August 14 while Greene-Placentia was reportedly fixing campaign signs near 99th Avenue and Bell Road in Sun City.
According to Greene-Placentia, she was attacked while walking back to her vehicle after placing the signs. She stated she was struck in the head and lost consciousness. Upon regaining awareness, she claimed to have been held down and sexually assaulted by one man, while another man also assaulted her as she attempted to fight back.
In his statement, Sheriff Sheridan mentioned the challenges investigators face due to limited recollection of the events by Greene-Placentia. He explained that the team is trying to narrow down the area of concern, which currently spans from 99th Avenue and Bell Road north toward the Anthem community.
Detectives have been canvassing the area for surveillance footage and any other evidence related to the attack. They are also utilizing cell phone and vehicle data to help refine their search area.
“Investigations involving circumstances of this nature can be particularly complex and sensitive,” Sheridan stated. “Establishing an accurate timeline, location, and understanding of the events requires a methodical approach, careful attention to detail, and the thorough examination of all available evidence.”
The sheriff emphasized his agency’s commitment to following every lead in the case while noting that details might remain limited to protect the integrity of the investigation. “This investigation remains open and active, and we will continue working toward establishing the facts and bringing this case to a resolution,” he added.
