FAES Distributes 30,500 School Kits to Vulnerable Families in Haiti
On September 8, 2026, the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) announced the distribution of 30,500 school kits to families identified as vulnerable across several departments in Haiti. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden associated with the beginning of the new school year, particularly for families facing economic difficulties.
The distribution efforts were timed for the start of the school year, a period when expenses for educational supplies often strain household budgets. On the morning of September 8, 6,500 kits were provided to the Departmental Emergency Operations Center (COUD) in Fort-Liberté, situated in the Northeast region. Shortly thereafter, an additional 7,500 kits were given to the COUD in Vaudreuil, Cap-Haitien, in the North department.
These school kits are intended for public high schools and national schools, which will further distribute them to designated students and families. The initiative serves a practical goal: to ensure that children are equipped with the necessary supplies to start the school year while easing the financial pressures on vulnerable households.
The operation commenced on September 6, 2026, in the Artibonite department, where 10,000 kits were initially handed over to local representatives. The Northwest region also received 6,500 kits during the early stages of this distribution mission.
FAES’s program will continue its efforts in the Centre department and subsequently move to the Greater South region, with plans to ensure that schools in five departments—Artibonite, Northwest, Northeast, North, and Centre—receive these vital supplies.
For families with limited means, the provision of these kits represents a significant form of support at a time when back-to-school costs can accumulate rapidly. This initiative aims to improve the material conditions under which students return to school, addressing one of the many challenges faced by impoverished households in Haiti.
Why It Matters:
The distribution of school kits by FAES plays a crucial role in ensuring that educational access is more equitable in Haiti. By directly providing necessary supplies to vulnerable families, the initiative seeks to foster a conducive learning environment and reduce financial burdens, ultimately supporting the educational aspirations of children in economically disadvantaged communities.
